FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Cassie Larson cassie@mnla.biz, (651) 633-4987 Professor Pedersen Receives MNLA Special Service Award The Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association honored recently retired professor Brad Pedesen of the University of Minnesota with a Special Service Award. Pedersen was recognized during the Minnesota Green Expo that was held January 3-5 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. While at Waseca, Pedersen served as Landscape Maintenance Supervisor for the 110-acre campus from 1973-1978. During his tenure, the faculty, staff and students of the Horticulture Department were honored as the Best Maintained Campus in the Nation by the National Grounds Management Society. As a faculty member, Pedersen designed and taught courses on landscape design, construction and maintenance, and later developed the Golf Course and Grounds Management Program. In 1992, Pedersen began his tenure in the Department of Horticultural Science in St. Paul. He served as the faculty coordinator for the Landscape Design Program and the Landscape Implementation and Management Program. Over the years, his students designed and implemented the Department's Display and Trial Garden. He was also the principle developer of the Sustainable Urban Landscape Information Series website which maintains over ten million hits from 100 countries annually. His Extension Specialist activities included both urban and commercial horticulture activities in turfgrass science and landscape design. Pedersen is best known for his teaching and has won numerous teaching honors. He's also served MNLA directly in many ways. For many years in the 1970s, his Waseca students were responsible for the design and construction of the entry landscape at MNLA's annual conference and show. He has served on the certification, landscape management, and landscape design committees. He has been a regular contributor to MNLA's monthly magazine and has taught many, many classes for MNLA members.
